This is not your English teacher’s The Scarlet Letter.
Set in Puritan-era Boston, this brilliant, unique adaptation of the classic novel has a decidedly contemporary slant. While preserving the familiar story of Hester Prynne, Roger Chillingworth and Arthur Dimmesdale, the manner in which it addresses the tale is almost a feminist deconstruction of this American Literary Classic.
As told from the now adult Pearl’s perspective, Hester’s story answers the question: do the Puritanical labels others thrust upon us have power over us if we refuse to embrace their scorn?

Set in Purgatory (which closely resembles the New York subway), this comic courtroom drama uses biblical and historical figures as witnesses for the case of: God and the Kingdom of Heaven and Earth v. Judas Iscariot. As they try to decide who was responsible for Jesus’s death.
One of the oldest tales of betrayal and forgiveness, it shines a humorous light on our own ‘heavens’, ‘hells’ and ‘purgatories’ In the end, we are our own judges, juries and – in some cases – executioners.

This unauthorized parody of the beloved comic strip re-imagines these classic characters as high school students, and turns them on their ear, scrapes off their childlike veneer, and shakes them up to see what comes spilling out.
CB's dog dies of rabies, his best friend is a burn out, his sister has gone goth, his ex is institutionalized; and his other friends are too inebriated to care. A chance meeting offers CB peace of mind, forming a friendship that pushes the limits of teen angst.
Drug use, suicide, eating disorders, teen violence, bullying, rebellion and sexual identity careen toward a haunting and hopeful ending.
